The 6th EASR and IAHR Special Conference on "Religious History of Europe and Asia" will take place from the 20th to the 23rd of September 2006 in Bucharest, which will be the first East-European capital to act as host for such a major event in the life of this discipline. In previous years, the conference took place in Cambridge (2001), Paris (2002), Bergen (2003), Santander (2004) and Turku/Åbo (2005).

The local organiser of the conference is The Romanian Association for the History of Religions (RAHR), which promotes the academic study of the history of religions, in collaboration with allied disciplines. Among the other organisers one counts the following institutions: University of Bucharest, Romanian Cultural Institute, New Europe College, École Pratique des Hautes Études (Sorbonne, Paris), Agence universitaire de la francophonie, and Pasts Inc. (Budapest).

The theme of the Conference has attracted a large number of scholars worldwide. The number of participants will be above 250 from about 30 countries, including colleagues working in the Central and Eastern European area.
